Presto Change-O Recycled Pants!
So I figured I'd better start using some of the fabric I bought online awhile ago instead of buying more stuff. I'm in Joann's so often they practically have a cart with my name engraved on it. I bought this Japanese import fabric online & thought this was such a cute fabric with all the little French phrases. After having it for the past month, I didn't know what to do with it and didn't want to use the entire yard. I thought to recycle in lieu of buying more yardage. We'd just done a fall closet clear out & a bunch of pants & shirts of my husband's were in the donate pile, but looking pretty worn:
I took these past-their-prime grey slacks (which are a Men's 38" waist, 30' inseam) and cut them up to make these fun pull on pants for my 6yr old using the French print as trim:
Obviously the new pants are a lot smaller despite the pics being deceptively similar in size. This was a big win since 1. I used fabric from pants that would have been tossed out 2. I didn't spend any more money 3. I still have 3/4 yard of my Japanese import to use on other creations. The best part is I have several more pairs of pants, jeans and XXL t-shirts that will make some great base fabrics for more fun stuff. Recycling meets sewing = Hooray!
