Confession Time

First, I'll admit it, I'm a total sewing nerd. I get way too excited about discovering new fabrics, notions and patterns. Meet my newest source of enrapture: the snap press.

Second confession - despite any illusions created from all the stuff on here, I am a bit lazy with my sewing. I hate doing closures on clothing - zippers, snaps, buttonholes, etc. It means digging around to find the right size & color and oh-so-carefully attach them to avoid wrecking the item with a sloppy looking closure - or worse - one that doesn't work properly. Ugh, just thinking about it makes me not want to bother. However, it's almost impossible to avoid attachments on baby & kid's clothing, so this item meets my lazy, sewing nerd needs.

Not the cheapest tool, but it is pretty practical. If you like that it can be used on just about anything and will last a lifetime, this is the item for you. Unlike when using tricky snap pliers, snaps go in right, stay in and removing them is also a breeze. Super easy to set-up & with different dies, this one can be used for metal snaps too. My only disappointment is you need arms of steel to fully flatten the plastic prongs. I figured after lifting a 35lb toddler, I'd be strong enough, but no. So I need to enlist the assistance of the superhero in my house (aka husband) to fully deploy my snaps. Otherwise, this thing is great.

I've used it on some overalls and making this one size cloth diaper. Above is fully opened, below is closed up for small babies. I plan to use this thing on the loads of other items I've been avoiding because of my closure issues and for making stuff for my store. Now comes the hard part - finding the time for it all!!

  2. My mother used to have one when I was a nipper. I just loved it, but did not know what it was for, now I know.
