All Suited Up

While I love trying out new patterns and designs, there is something to be said for the ones that become favorites - where a new fabric or color combo makes you fall in love with it all over again.  This little union suit has become one of those for me.  The design is from the winter 09 issue of Ottobre Design and there are multiple reasons this is a great pattern.  First it's pretty easy to make - just a front, back, sleeves & trim.  Second it requires very little fabric, so for my 6mos size 1/2yd was plenty.  Lastly, it's practical - snap up legs and lap shoulders for easy on & off and a roomy fit.  Oh, and did I mention it looks super cute on?  Here's some proof:

I'm in love with this fabric as well - it doesn't show too well in the photos, but there's a silver sparkle to it, which inspired me to make this little matching hat:

I used my flower hat design from last summer, but I decided to use a snap to attach the flower to the hat.  Added bonus is it makes the hat interchangeable once I dream up a few more accent ideas that can be attached.  More on that idea to come....

  2. Stopping by from the Sharefest! Holy cow! I am in love with the purple one your girl is wearing. I have 3 girls - a 2yo and twins that turn 1 in two weeks. I'm going to have to find some fabric like that purple and make some of these for them.
I got a serger for Christmas and a sewing machine a couple years ago but then we went into baby-making mode. Now that they're playing more I am dying to learn to sew better. Glad I found your blog for more inspiration! Have a great weekend!
