Timeless Treasures, an amazing fabric producer, saw some of the things I'd made and asked if I wanted to try out some of their new laminated cotton fabrics for a project of my choosing. A chance to play with some all new fabric?! Yes, please! Well, me being me, instead of making 1 thing, I made 5. The prints were soooo pretty! These laminated cottons will be coming out this fall and are from their Sunny Daze collection by Alice Kennedy. Aren't they gorgeous?!?
Now let's start with today's item, what I'm calling my Mommy & Me Apron. I'll be honest, I've never been a huge apron user. Mostly because most are either too blah looking or seem too pretty to get dirty. I came up with this design so clothes stay clean and cleaning the apron itself is a 2 second job. Just wipe & it's ready for next time.
I also designed it so that it uses less than a yard of laminated cotton and would be easy enough for a beginner to make. In under an hour, this apron is ready to wear when cooking, making art or doing anything a little bit messy. Flattering AND functional!
It's also got three built-in pockets for holding utensils or tools. And of course, once I made it, someone small horned in on the action:
"Hey Mommy! What about me?" How could I refuse that little face? So I also made a child sized version so every little helper could stay clean too & look just like mommy (or grandma, daddy, etc.).
The icing on the cake was Timeless Treasures liked my projects enough to want to use them in a tradeshow display showcasing this new fabric! I was so excited - it's like showing it to all the cool kids at craft school. Yay!!

ReplyDeleteI actually wear an apron all day long...between crafts we do for homeschooling, the baby who constantly spits up, and cooking 3 meals a day, I don't take it off until dinner is done & cleaned up! So I would get LOTS of use out of this!
ReplyDeleteI'm a follower of your blog :)
ReplyDeleteI would wear this baby while vacuuming! I always find little things that are too big to suck up or tiny toys. I'd love to be able to just stick them in an apron pocket and carry on. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI would totally wear it cooking! I love it!
ReplyDeleteI follow you!
ReplyDeleteI like to use my apron like a towel when cooking, so I'd use a laminated one primarily for crafting with the kids. Love your mini version, too!

ReplyDeleteI would wear it mainly for cooking - like you, I don't generally bother, they are so hard to keep clean! I reckon the laminated cotton works really well though. I should start making all of my grubnut girl's clothes out of this stuff - lol!
ReplyDeleteI love that you made your pattern new-sewer friendly, which means I feel comfortable to try it! My 3-yr old and I love to bake cookies together- these would be great for some Halloween treats!
ReplyDeleteI have started baking my own bread and this would a bonus to have an apron that would easily brush off all the flour. I love that material too. I need to do some more investigating on your blog to see where I can get some. BTW- my daughter would LOVE a matching apron too!!
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day.
I am a new follower too!!
ReplyDeleteI'm new, and I would dearly love an apron pattern! Hubs & I are on special diets, so I cook every single meal we eat, and I really do love to wear pretty aprons. Trouble is, I don't have any that are pretty! I am dying to try the laminated cotton so a new one will STAY pretty! Yum!

I would wear this apron while giving my son his bath....when he gets his hair washed, he is always burying his face in my shirt so I get a little bit of a bath myself...since it's water resistant, my shirt would stay dry!! YEAH!!

ReplyDeleteWould totally use this apron- so cute!!
ReplyDeletenot sure when I would use it, but whenever my little ones are in theres I would adorn mine and maybe get a bit messier than I usually do. . . I don't have an apron. Have some air drying clay that needs some imagination used on it. . . maybe me and the girls would admire the apron whilst conjuring up something from another planet. Great blog. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI never heard of laminated cotton but was so excited to see how you used it. It makes so much sense to make an apron that you can wipe messes off of. I'd mostly use it for the ordinary cooking, cleaning and gardening. I would also make sure that one was available for my boys and girls to use. Very cute and practical!
