Kids Can Craft: Beeswax Candles

In celebration of my new all-the-time link party, Kids Can Craft, here's a project idea that is easy & fun: Beeswax Candles.

Perfect for kids because it doesn't require many tools or make a mess (yay!) and all you need skillwise is a little creativity.  You'll need beeswax sheets & some cotton cord for the wicks.  The best source I found for this was Magic Cabin.  They have kits that give you a variety of nice colors & plenty cord for a pretty good price.

Making them is simple.  Just cut a sheet of wax to the desired height (on an angle for tapers), then cut a piece of cord that is about 2 inches longer and lay it over one side of the beeswax so there's a little tail sticking out of the top.  Start rolling and then when it's all rolled, press the outer seam into the candle to keep it closed.

We used fondant & mini cookie cutters to make some decorative shapes to put on the candles

Just pressing the shapes on with warm hands makes them stick:

My little guy, who normally doesn't stick with crafts for too long was really into making these.  He also insisted on wearing my prototype Darth Vader hat while he worked:

Here's how they look up close:

They make great decorations & gifts and smell sooooo nice.  We made quite a few candles and still have plenty of beeswax to make a bunch more.  Perfect for keeping kids busy & creative!

Got great project for kids?  Link it up to the new Kids Can Craft Party - it's an ongoing party, so you can link up ideas anytime!
