I've had Spring on the brain for a while now. Bonnets, sunny dresses, pastels, flowers, etc. Love 'em! I wanted to put them all together to make something a bit beyond the everyday. So I came up with my Cabbage Rose Bonnet:
Loads of fluffy ruffles in happy, spring colors:
Styled to be striking from every angle:
And tiered to look like a facing-framing flower blossom:
I also designed it to last a long time - the simplified sizing means it will fit for years. Trust me - I made my 5yr old son put it on and it still fits him, but also nicely fit a life size baby doll (in addition to my little 19 month old model obviously). And of course after I had it made, it needed a matching ruffle dress:
I designed the dress to have a scalloped ruffle front that opened into a cascade of ruffles underneath:
Made a little ruffle-style extra trim around the collar:
And a simple snap-up back:
I think my favorite part is that the fabrics are the yardage I used as tablecloths from her 1st Birthday Tea Party last year. It's given them a new life as a Victorian-style outfit. Definitely an upcycle! And doesn't it look old-timey when it has an antique photo finish?
I cannot wait for her to wear this out & about. Now I just need to make something decent for myself so I don't look slobby standing next to her!
Oh I love this. She looks so cute. I have been wanting to make a ruffly bonnet for a while. This is perfect motivation! And I like the ruffles in the front!
ReplyDeleteAh its beautiful she is so cute.
ReplyDeleteThis is SO cute! No offense, but I don't think you need to worry what you'll look like out and about with this cutie, all eyes will be on her sweet smile and ruffle framed face!
