Hi! I'm Amy from One Artsy Mama, and I'm excited to be participating
in this year's CraftShare! I love all kinds of arts and crafts...painting, sewing, jewelry-making, and DIY projects, especially when I can get my "Little Crafter" involved.
My job today is to share with you a fun activity featuring one of my favorite supplies, Mod Podge!
Gosh, that stuff is good for everything, isn't it?!
Here's our latest project and how you can make your own:
PERSONALIZED MOD PODGE MAGNETS
Materials:
Mod Podge
large clear decorative stones
magnetic tape
scissors
pencil
paint brush
arts supplies as desired: scrapbook paper, stamps, ink, colored pencils, stickers, glitter, paint, etc.
Basically, you can make your magnet with anything you like. You can use photos, magazine clippings, or any kind of artwork for the backing. For these, I stamped on designer scrapbook paper. If you choose a different backing, skip to step 2.
STEP 1: Choose a piece of scrapbook paper and stamp your desired image on it using Staz-On or other solvent ink. Water-based inks won't hold up when you apply the Mod Podge. Color with colored pencils if you'd like. Little Crafter stamped some of these images, which is why they're all over the place. ;)
STEP 2: Place a decorative stone over each image and lightly trace around it with a pencil. You need to do this with a different stone for each image because they all have slightly different shapes and you want the backing to be a perfect match. Sorry these photos didn't turn out really great.
STEP 3: Cut out circle. Apply Mod Podge to the flat side of the decorative stone and place the image face down on top. Let dry.
STEP 4: When dry, add a generous coat of Mod Podge on the back.
STEP 5: Cut a piece of magnetic tape for the back of each magnet and adhere when Mod Podge is dry. I hot-glued mine on because I had a bit of trouble with them falling off the fridge when I just used the magnet's adhesive.
I thought these turned out super-cute. I'm anxious to try these with other kinds of backings too. Little Crafter loooves to paint and is fantastic at it, so I'm thinking I'll get him to do a few paintings that I can cut into magnet sized pieces. The bird magnet featured in the center of the photo is actually going to be the favor I make for a baby shower I'm helping to host for one of my best friends. We're going with a bird's nest theme, so I thought this cute little guy would be a nice reminder of the day for guests to take home. Now I just have to make about 15 more!
Speaking of bird nests, I mentioned earlier that one of my favorite ways to be artsy-craftsy is to make jewelry. One of my specialties {found in my Etsy shop} is these bird nest necklaces...and earrings and rings.
I told Cheryl that I'd be happy to offer a giveaway, so here it is!
One lucky winner will receive a bird's nest necklace. I'll be happy to personalize it for you with whatever number/color of "eggs" you'd like to have in your nest.
