The Mustache Goes Girly: Making Mustachio Barrettes

I know, I know, I'm a little late to the party when it comes to mustache-related crafts.  This is my first one!  I've had a bit of a love/hate thing with the whole mustache theme.  When it started out I thought it was super cute and then it was EVERYWHERE and I got super tired of it.  But somehow it's kind of grown on me again - especially with the idea of taking it in new directions, like making a mustache "girly".

I found some resin mustache flat backs and knew I had to make something fun with them. And what's more fun or easy than some sassy mustachio barrettes for a little miss?  Here's how to make 'em:
You'll Need:

- Felt
- Ultra Firm Stabilizer (this holds the crisp, outlined shape nicely)
- Metal Barrettes
- Hot Glue Gun
- Embroidery Floss & Needle
- Flat back resin mustaches (found in the scrapbook section of Hobby Lobby)
- Paper, pencil & scissors

Draw an outline of a mustache on paper to the size desired & cut out.  I wanted mine to echo the handlebar style of the resin pieces so I followed that shape, but bigger.  Use the pattern to cut the felt and stabilizer. Also cut two felt rectangles that fit inside the barrettes and are slightly wider.
Layer a felt mustache over a piece of stabilizer and stitch around the edge with embroidery floss to make a nice contrasting outline and hold the layers together:
Place a small rectangle of felt inside the barrette, then spread hot glue over the barrette top and the felt.  Firmly press the felt mustache on top.
Next place hot glue on the back of the flat back mustache and press onto center of felt:
And now it's time to rock the 'do, mustachio-style:
